Common Misconceptions about Yoga
Yoga and Religion: Yoga is not a religion, it is a spiritual practise for individuals from all belief systems.

“Yoga is not a religion - remember that. Yoga is not Hindu, it is not Mohammedan. Yoga is a pure science just like mathematics, physics or chemistry. Physics is not Christian, physics is not Buddhist. If Christians had discovered the laws of physics, then too physics is not Christian. It is just accidental that Christians have come to discover the laws of physics. But physics remains just a science. Yoga is a science…it is just an accident that Hindus discovered it. It is not Hindu. It is a pure mathematics of the inner being. So a Mohammedan can be a yogi, a Christian can be a yogi, a Jain, a Buddhist can be a yogi.” - Osho

Yoga & stretching: It is often believed that yoga is only about stretching, after one class you will see how untrue this is. In yoga it is believed that muscles need to be worked and stretched. There is a counter posture for every posture so that after we work one set of muscles, we stretch them afterwards to prevent injury and a build up of lactic acid. Yoga builds healthy strong muscles through a balance of working and relaxing.

Yoga & Gender:
There is a misconception that yoga is only for women. Most of the yoga masters in India are men, yoga is for both genders. The idea that yoga is for women only, is a complete fallacy.
